A well travelled quilt.

Our happy little band of quilters is gearing up for another fun membership year exploring new, and old, piecing and quilting techniques, which we will share with you, here. In the meanwhile, here's a recap from the last couple of years.

We began a group project quilt in the fall of  '21, in order to learn foundation paper strip piecing. We drew from a generous donation of quilting fabrics as well as our own stashes, so our final blocks were in a wide range of colorways. Each member made at least one set of four blocks and brought the finished blocks to the guild house for a group exercise in block setting. Once safely pinned in the final arrangement, the blocks went home with a member for final assembly. Then back to the guild house the quilt came, where we put together a strip pieced border and sent it back out to have the border attached. Then the quilt moved on to another member for preparation of the back, and to another member for machine quilting, and to another member for binding.   In May of this year the quilt was finally finished and we will now be deciding on its forever home.  All hands had a part in the making of this quilt, including Marilyn, who passed away this spring, and Anna, who moved out of the area just after the quilt was started.

We also had fun piling into a van for a couple of one-day Shop Hops, picking up new patterns and fabrics from some of the wonderful quilt shops in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Hand stitched applique caught our interest and we decided to make a small project - potholders, mostly fruits and vegies.

We have Show and Share at most meetings, with a wonderful assortment of projects from our members. Here are just a few from the past few years.

These shared experiences are why I come to quilters meetings, the first Tuesday morning of the month. Our group is large enough for diverse viewpoints and lively conversation, yet small enough for each of us, no matter our skill level, to be a valued and welcome member. Our first meeting of the coming year is Tuesday, September 5 at 10:00 AM at the guild house. You are welcome to join us!
